Road transportation from aquaculture setups to slaughter houses can be stressful for the fish, and therefore affect the animal welfare and the meat quality. Studying plasma physiology, metabolism and mortality rate, a clear impact of transportation was found prior to stunning and slaughter of these major species in Dutch aquaculture (2 publications).
